Job Overview

NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board is seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for improving outcomes for children, young people and care leavers to join our Safeguarding Team as Deputy Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Looked After Children.

This strategic role provides safeguarding leadership, advice and assurance, supporting the ICB to meet its statutory responsibilities in line with the NHS England Safeguarding Accountability and Assurance Framework (SAAF). Working with designated professionals, commissioned services and system partners, you will strengthen safeguarding governance, provider assurance, partnership working and quality improvement. You will support learning from reviews and audits, identify risks and help ensure childrens voices inform commissioning and system improvement.

We are looking for an experienced safeguarding practitioner with strong leadership, analytical and influencing skills, able to provide advice and professional challenge.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The postholder will:

  • Support the Designated Nurse in providing strategic and professional safeguarding leadership across the South Yorkshire health and care system.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance and constructive professional challenge on complex, sensitive or contentious safeguarding matters.
  • Support the ICB to fulfil its statutory safeguarding responsibilities and provide assurance in line with the NHS England Safeguarding Accountability and Assurance Framework.
  • Develop and maintain robust safeguarding governance and assurance arrangements across NHS-funded and commissioned services.
  • Work collaboratively with designated professionals, NHS providers, local authorities, safeguarding partnerships and other system partners to strengthen safeguarding arrangements and improve outcomes.

  • Build effective relationships across organisational boundaries, influencing strategic policy, service development and commissioning decisions.

Contribute to the development and monitoring of safeguarding standards, key performance indicators, quality measures and improvement plans

  • Analyse complex qualitative and quantitative information to identify themes, risks, gaps and opportunities for system improvement.
