Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic safeguarding leader to join our Nursing and Quality leadership team as Head of Safeguarding. This senior role provides strategic, professional and operational leadership for safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk across the organisation.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Nursing & Quality, you will lead the Trust's safeguarding agenda, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, national guidance and best practice. You will provide expert advice and assurance to senior leaders and Board committees, oversee the delivery of high-quality safeguarding services, and work closely with partner agencies to improve outcomes for vulnerable people.

This is an excellent opportunity for a registered healthcare or social care professional with significant senior safeguarding experience, strong leadership skills and a passion for improving quality, safety and patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will play a key role in embedding a culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and ensuring safeguarding remains at the heart of clinical practice, governance and service improvement

Main duties of the job

The Head of Safeguarding provides strategic, professional and operational leadership for safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk across the Trust. The post holder will lead the safeguarding agenda, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met and that safeguarding is embedded within clinical practice, governance, quality improvement and service delivery

Job description

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and delivery of the Trust's safeguarding strategy, policies and assurance framework.
  • Providing expert safeguarding advice and assurance to the Trust Board, Executive Team, senior leaders and clinical services.
  • Overseeing safeguarding arrangements across a broad agenda, including safeguarding adults and children, domestic abuse, Prevent, MAPPA, modern slavery, self-neglect and exploitation.
  • Leading the Safeguarding Team and promoting high-quality safeguarding practice, supervision, training and continuous improvement across the organisation.
  • Ensuring compliance with safeguarding legislation, national guidance, regulatory requirements and multi-agency safeguarding procedures.
  • Leading organisational responses to safeguarding reviews, investigations and audits, ensuring learning is translated into meaningful improvements in practice.
  • Developing strong partnerships with local authorities, NHS organisations, police, commissioners and other agencies to improve outcomes for vulnerable people.
  • Monitoring safeguarding performance, identifying risks and providing assurance regarding the effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements across the Trust.

This is a highly influential leadership role, requiring an experienced safeguarding professional who can drive improvement, provide expert oversight and champion a culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
