The Policy Institute at King's College London is the largest university-based policy unit in the UK in scale, scope and profile. Part of the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy, it works to solve society's challenges with evidence and expertise, combining the rigour of academia with the agility of a consultancy and the connectedness of a think tank.

Our research is methodologically rigorous but built around impact, so that findings reach the people who can act on them. We communicate well beyond academia, generating over 2,000 pieces of media coverage a year and hosting major events with political leaders and policy experts.

We also develop future leaders through the School for Government and the Strand Group. These programmes blend academic theory with practical policy expertise, and our courses feature former prime ministers, chancellors and senior civil servants, so participants learn directly from people who have worked at the heart of British government.

About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a central role in shaping how widely talked-about social research in the UK reaches the public, the media and the people who make policy. Reporting to the Head of Communications at the Policy Institute, you'll help the institute and its constituent units raise their profile and ensure their work lands with real impact and influence.

You will help with the drafting and dissemination of engaging press releases, craft and edit compelling reports and briefings, turn complex research findings into charts and data visualisations, act as a communications advisor to researchers across the institute, and assist with the team's wider digital and event-related work, from its social media output to high-profile panel discussions, report launches and more.

You will join a friendly and hard-working team who work on some of the highest-profile projects being undertaken at King’s, across a wide range of pressing issues. Recent studies have focused on issues as varied as culture wars, gender equality, mental health, climate change, higher education, and social attitudes and values.

The role would suit someone who’s digitally savvy, with excellent graphic design skills, attention to detail and an interest in politics and public policy.

Given the range of research areas covered by the role, and the need to work across different teams, you will need to be flexible, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and willing to pitch in with a variety of tasks when needed.

The team follow a hybrid working model, with staff able to work remotely two or three days a week and the rest of the time spent in our central London office.

This role will also include occasional evening work to assist with events, for which flexible working patterns and TOIL are offered to make up the time.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), on a fixed-term three-year contract.

£39,076 to £43,909 per annum including London Weighting Allowance
