Job summary

The Device engineer is focused on the annual hardware refresh of the enduser device estates across the Trust over a four-year period.

The End User device within the trust could encompass:- Desktop and Notebook/Laptop devices- Smartphones, Tablets and other mobile devices- Virtual Desktops and associated applications

Typically this involves handling the bulk of the device replacementsincluding all discretionary and some break/fix replacements as well asdeployments required by an existing project where time and resourcepermits.

The role requires the ability to organize their own work and do so flexibly to accommodate both the needs of individual users and the wider organization simultaneously. It will involve deployments for projects and large/complex moves as required.

Managing the stock levels and coordinating with onsite and offsite teamsresponsible for storage and arranging transport.Working closely with the packaging team to assist in discovery, testing and deployment of images and packages.

The deployment role entails the use of several existing tools to assess theestate and identify devices due to be upgraded, assessing the appropriatedevice required specific role or function, where a new device is beingassessed this role will be key in the selection and testing of such devices.

Main duties of the job

Technical Proficiency and Deploymento Hardware Deployment and Management: Oversee the build, configuration, and deployment of EUC devices (desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals).o Ensure that more than 1,000 devices are deployed annually across the Trust.o Assess the specific technical needs of end-users and ensure that the most appropriate devices are selected based on role or functional requirements.o Lead the testing and implementation of new device images and application packages, ensuring compliance with Trust standards.o Provide technical expertise during large-scale or complex deployments, troubleshooting issues, and resolving problems efficiently.o Support the project team in large or complex moves, ensuring all devices are correctly deployed in line with the overall project objectives.o New Device Testing and Recommendations: Take a leading role in testing and evaluating new EUC devices, ensuring they meet the technical and operational needs of the Trust.o Work closely with procurement teams and technical support staff to recommend new devices, providing thorough testing and feedback before deployment.oDisposal and Data Destruction: Manage the certified data destruction process (e.g., using Blancco) and ensure that all hardware disposals are conducted through Trust-approved procedures. This includes managing asset disposal in compliance with regulatory and Trust requirements, maintaining accurate records of the process.
