📍 Central Headquarters, Ripley, Derbyshire We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join our small but busy Regulation Team which deals with Food Hygiene, Public Health, Health and Safety, and Animal Welfare Licensing. Amber Valley is an attractive area in the heart of Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District National Park and close to the lively cities of Nottingham and Derby. The district has a mix of market towns and industrial estates close to the M1 Corridor. We are looking for an enthusiastic professional who enjoys a challenge and has recent experience in food safety and / or health and safety enforcement work and who wishes to develop their competency further. You will need to demonstrate a strong sense of self-motivation, be a competent communicator and be capable of taking responsibility for completion of your individual work targets to a high standard. Our businesses range from major manufacturers to smaller domestic based enterprises and everything in between. The opportunity to develop and fine tune your regulatory skills will be plentiful. We encourage our officers to have a broad competency across all the team’s disciplines thereby giving plenty of chances to expand your knowledge and skills. *Animal welfare training will be given on a business need basis to those that have not already obtained the level 3 enforcement qualification that is required to enforce the licensing of animal activities. You will join a small but dynamic team and will benefit from a supportive environment to make a difference to businesses and the community. Applications are invited from those who hold a certificate of registration with EHRB / CIEH Registered EHP / CIEH Registered Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner with Food Safety and Health and Safety competencies with recent experience of conducting food hygiene interventions of A to E rated businesses, and / or recent health and safety enforcement in a local government setting. Animal welfare licensing enforcement and accident investigation experience is also desirable. **Applications are also encouraged by those who have obtained an accredited Environmental Health Degree or MSc and are in the final stages of working towards their registration with CIEH. Such candidates will have recent experience of working in these fields in a local authority environment and are looking to work in the specific fields of food safety and health and safety. Due to the nature of the role, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the post holder to meet a certain level of physical fitness. This is necessary to safely and effectively carry out duties such as accessing and inspecting a range of premises, walking across uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs or ladders in varied weather conditions. This requirement is a proportionate means of achieving the legitimate aim of ensuring public and employee safety and service delivery. A full driving licence is required, and the starting salary will be dependent on relevant experience, skill set, and qualifications held.
