Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, inspirational leader passionate about children's mental health. You will work jointly to manage our CAMHS crisis teams with our other Clinical Service Manager. Working hours are 22.5 hours to 30 hours per week.

Our passionate multi-disciplinary teams provide hospital assessment and intensive outreach to help prevent or reduce psychiatric admission for young people who live in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire:

• CAMHS Intensive Outreach Team (CIOT) based at Campbell House, Kingsdown, Bristol, BS6 5UB.
• Urgent Care and Treatment (UCAT) based at Weston General Hospital.

You will work closely with our acute hospital colleagues and the South West Provider Collaborative (inpatient provider), as well as forming close relationships with locality CAMHS. This role also involves working closely with our partners in child health, social care and the voluntary sector to continue to deliver effective services that make a difference.

Candidates must have appropriate clinical qualification and professional registration. The right candidate will put young people at the heart of the service, will possess good problem-solving skills and have the ability to achieve results through collaboration with staff, young people, families and partner agencies.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the leadership and delivery of the CAMHS Intensive Outreach Team (CIOT) andUrgent Care and Treatment (UCAT) teamswhich wok with children and young people across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). Please note the post holder will be required to travel across BNSSG across both bases and multiple other sites in the area.

CIOT is a combined team of AWP and Off The Record staff working to an agreed set of aims and objectives. This role requires close collaboration with a range of partner services to ensure seamless delivery of care across the pathway of services, particularly social care, acute hospitals and alongside adult services. Please note that CIOT works 24/7 and although this post is predominantly Monday to Friday there may be occasions when working outside of these hours is required.

Job description

The CIOT and UCAT teams has two main functions:

1. Hospital assessment and follow-up:

CIOT and UCAT offers assessment of all under 18s, including those who are not normally resident in Bristol or South Gloucestershire, who present at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) and North Bristol Trust (NBT) hospitals in crisis with self-injurious behaviours, suicidal ideation or psychosis as part of a mental health presentation

2. Intensive Outreach:

CIOT and UCAT offers an intensive outreach package of care to young people and their families/carers open to locality CAMHS who are in crisis, at high risk of harm to themselves, at risk of Tier 4 admission and/or struggling to access and engage with locality CAMHS. The aim is to offer a short term crises intervention to try and prevent further escalations in risk, offer a period of stabilisation to the young person and their network and prevent a Tier 4 admission.

Intensive outreach may also be offered, where clinically appropriate, to support step downs from Tier 4 units. We will aim to offer in-reach work alongside locality to maintain relationships with young people and assist with care plans at the point of discharge.

Current additional function:

Access Assessments (as inpatient unit currently closed): to triage Tier 4 inpatient referrals and provide face-to-face assessment if appropriate to determine if and what type of admission is required.
