Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Bowel Cancer Screening centre as a Programme Clerk, supporting the early diagnosis and prevention of cancer across the county.

The programme works across Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MKUH) and Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT). This post will be based at Milton Keynes University Hospital, providing on-site administrative support for the programme. This will include, but is not limited to, handling incoming and outgoing post, preparing letters and packs for patients, communicating with patients, and working alongside clinical staff. It is an expectation that the successful post-holder will be able to travel to MKUH and BHT sites as required.

The successful candidate will be able to handle the demands of a busy NHS service. They will be self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as in a team of clinical and non-clinical staff. Strong communication skills and a commitment to providing quality patient care and experience are essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be accountable for providing an administrative service to support the effective delivery of the programme across Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire.

• Process incoming post, escalating any actions to the relevant team members.
• Process and print letters generated by the Bowel Cancer Screening System (BCSS), and send these to patients, carers, GP practices, and other NHS organisations as required.
• Create and send individual letters to patients, for example in cases of non-attendance or lost contact.
• To prepare bowel preparation packs and appointment letters for patients as bookings come in.
• To arrange and facilitate postage or collection taking into account factors including time until appointment and any additional instructions.
• Assist in maintaining the colonoscopy e-diary.
• Assist clinical staff with queries on admin matters, resolving issues such as double bookings.
• To update and maintain patient notes, ensuring all patient data is recorded accurately and to the required level of detail.
• To provide secretarial support to the BCSP team, word processing, filling, photocopying and composing letters/documents.
