Neonatal Sister/ Charge Nurse

Department Neonatal Unit

Band 6 £39,959 - £48,117 per annum pro rata

23.50 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Join our friendly and dedicated team, providing high-quality, family-integrated care to 16 cots. We are a Level 2 Neonatal Unit caring for infants that require care ranging special care to intensive care. You will become part of a supportive multidisciplinary team committed to achieve the best outcomes for our patients and their families.

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse to join our team. You will be taking on clinical shifts as well as nurse in charge roles; therefore, you would need to have completed the Neonatal Intensive Care Course and passed the NLS. Aside from clinical knowledge and skills, time management, communication, organisation and leadership skills are crucial to this role. We value passion and professional attitude and believe that Band 6s play a integral role in modelling and development within the team.

To work in collaboratively with the MDT to provide the highest standard of clinical nursing care to premature infants through multidisciplinary working and evidence-based practice.

To deliver high quality patient care on a daily basis. The post holder should be knowledgeable in all areas of nursing care including resuscitation and stabilisation, admission to discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development. They will actively support the Senior Sisters, ensuring the effective running of the unit on a daily basis.

Professional

To undertake managerial responsibility for a team of nurses and support staff, providing high quality 24 hour patient care in the most efficient and safe manner in accordance with Divisional and Trust policies and guidelines, in the absence of Band 7/Matron.To undertake the supervision and direction of junior staff, nursing support workers and learners.

ClinicalTo demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and practice and act as a role model at all times.In the absence of the Lead Nurse, maintain clinical leadership, working closely with the multidisciplinary team

ManagementTo provide professional leadership of the nursing team on a shift by shift basis, ensuring appropriate staff allocation and skill-mix, managing of cot availability and service provision.

To establish and maintain effective communication channels within and outside the department by:Promoting teamwork and inter-personal relationships and encouraging others in the decision making process.Attend regular unit meetings and participating in Divisional Directorate forums as required.

Education

Demonstrate responsibility for professional development using:

Personal development review plan and professional portfolio.Incorporate health education and health promotion in clinical practice

PersonnelTo participate in the appointment of staff within the nursing team.To assist the Band 7 team in the staff personal development reviews and personal development (PD and PDP).
