Job summary

A ideal opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 staff nurse to join our team here at Millom community hospital to cover eight and a half months of maternity leave. The position would be on a fixed term contract with a review of the staffing establishment at the end of the maternity cover to see if the position could be made permanent.

The successful candidate would be required to work on the 9 bedded in-patient unit along with supporting the district nursing team when required. The position is for a 27 hour fixed term contract.

There will be a requirement to work on the internal rotation shifts pattern seven days per week.

Main duties of the job

To take charge of the 9 bedded in-patient unit as and when rostered.

To maintain the safety and provide a high standard of care to all our patients.

To work with other MDT members and the discharge team in a professional manner.

To report to the senior nurse any concerns or issues.

To comply with the documentation process in line with trust policy. Become proficient in using the trust IT systems such as EMIS and Lorenzo

To support audits

Take charge of the ward when on shift.

Support junior staff

Participate in training of Junior staff and students.

Ensure the delivery of care is of the highest standard.

Ensure the safety of the patients and staff is maintained at all times.

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.
