About You

The Warwick Institute for Employment Research (IER) is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to strengthen its employment and labour markets research. We are looking for a labour economist or other social scientist possessing high level quantitative skills who wants to undertake rigorous research addressing important labour market and related public policy questions.

You will have or be close to completing a PhD in labour economics or a relevant social science discipline and have a clear research focus on employment or labour markets. You will have strong applied quantitative research skills, including econometric and statistical methods, and experience of analysing labour market data. We would particularly welcome experience of using large-scale survey, administrative or linked datasets and applying appropriate methods to questions of policy relevance.

You should be able to demonstrate a developing programme of substantive employment/labour market research rather than methodological expertise alone. This research should align with IER’s existing programmes of work, see https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/ier/researchthemesoverview/

You will have the ability to produce rigorous academic research and communicate findings clearly to policymakers, practitioners and other non-academic audiences.

IER is multidisciplinary, and you should be comfortable collaborating with researchers from different disciplinary and methodological backgrounds while also being able to undertake independent research. You should have the ability to work across several research activities and work effectively with external research and policy partners.

About the Role

You will contribute to the design and delivery of externally funded research, undertake analysis using large-scale survey, administrative and/or linked data, and produce high-quality academic and policy facing outputs. You will work with colleagues across IER and the wider University and with external partners including government departments, public bodies and other research organisations.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose expertise complements and strengthens IER's work in areas such as skills and training, labour market transitions, labour supply and demand, wages, health and job quality, and the evaluation of employment and labour market policies.

The role provides an opportunity to develop your own area of research expertise while contributing to IER's wider programme of policy relevant employment and labour market research. Pending successful probation, this post is tenure track.

PhD Status

If you are near submission of your PhD, or have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made at Research Assistant level, at the highest spinal point of pay grade 5 (£34,610 per annum).

Upon receipt of evidence confirming the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow, at the lowest spinal point of grade 6 (£35,608 per annum).
