Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to join our Hepatology Pharmacy team to help deliver a progressive and forward thinking pharmacy service to our liver patients.The postholder does not require specific experience in hepatology but they need a willingness to learn, training will be provided. They will work with the Principal Hepatology Pharmacist to lead, manage and develop a high quality, patient focused clinical pharmacy service for hepatology patients.This varied role provides an opportunity to play a pivotal role in the management of both inpatients and outpatients with a range of hepatological conditions. They will ensure high levels of patient safety and experience and ensure clinical and financial metrics are met.The postholder will contribute to the World Health Organisations Hepatitis C elimination target of 2030 by working in outreach hepatitis C clinics in local Drug and Alcohol centres and community locations. They will take part in testing events with the Viral Hepatitis Team to identify patients with hepatitis C for treatment.The postholder will promote the field of hepatology to colleagues and junior staff through education and training and have the opportunity to participate nationally in the British Hepatology Pharmacy Group.The St George's Hepatology Team have achieved Improving Quality in Liver Services (IQILS) level 2 with the hepatology pharmacy team getting a special mention for the exemplar service provided to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The main day to day responsibilities of the post include:

  • Working as an integral part of the STHepNet Viral Hepatitis Team to provide hepatitis C treatment to patients in secondary care and the wider community.
  • Providing a clinical pharmacy service to hepatology inpatients, working as part of the MDT in consultant-led ward rounds.- Providing and developing pharmacist-led hepatology outpatient clinics using independent prescribing- Ensuring safety, patient experience, clinical and financial metrics are met.
