Job summary
We are looking for UK NMC band 6 registered Midwives to work within our core community midwifery team.
As a core community midwife, you are responsible for the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of care provided in community within in our maternity services. Taking part of an on call rota to provide a homebirth service and escalation to the main unit. Working autonomously within guidelines and the sphere of professional practice, on a 24-hour basis, you will provide direct care to women and birthing people and their babies. You must have completed a recognised preceptorship package and be proficient as a Band 6 midwife.
The postholder will act as a role model for junior staff and support the delivery of evidence-based care while contributing to the future development of the maternity service

Main duties of the job
Undertakes a range of midwifery skills which include;
- Conducting homebirths and being on call
- Being on call for escalation into the main unit
- Performing key obstetric skills venous sampling, perineal suturing, epidural top-ups
- Responsible for developing midwifery led programs of care for women which include care planning.
- This will include managing a caseload and public health education, until such a time when the woman is discharged or transferred from midwifery care
- Refer women to the multidisciplinary team members for appropriate care as required.
- Provide public health advice and support to promote healthy lifestyles for mother and baby.
- Responsible for managing and prioritising own workload against the needs of women and the serviceneeds.
- Delivers care interventions and specialist advice within the maternity to promote flexibility and choice for women.
- Orders investigations/test and prescribes medicines within agreed guidelines and policies.
