Job description
We are looking for an experienced and proactive General Practice Manager to join our robust and supportive management team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Practice Manager who is confident in all aspects of general practice management and who enjoys working in a busy, forward-thinking environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the practice, ensuring that we maintain high standards of governance, compliance, staff development and patient care.
Key ResponsibilitiesStaff Management, Training & Development
You will have responsibility for supporting, developing and training members of the practice team, ensuring that staff have the appropriate knowledge, skills and understanding to carry out their roles effectively.
This will include:
- Identifying staff training and development needs.
- Supporting the induction of new members of staff.
- Organising and monitoring mandatory and role-specific training.
- Ensuring staff remain up to date with relevant policies, procedures and guidance.
- Supporting staff performance and development.
- Working closely with the wider management team to maintain a positive, supportive and professional working environment.
Governance, Compliance & CQC Readiness
A significant part of the role will involve ensuring the practice remains fully prepared for any external review, inspection or compliance check.
You will take an active role in maintaining and monitoring compliance with the requirements of CQC, the ICB and other relevant regulatory and professional bodies.
This will include:
- Maintaining effective governance systems and processes.
- Ensuring policies and procedures are current, implemented and regularly reviewed.
- Monitoring compliance and identifying areas requiring improvement.
- Maintaining appropriate evidence and documentation to demonstrate compliance.
- Supporting the practice in preparation for CQC inspections and ICB compliance reviews.
- Carrying out regular internal checks and audits to ensure we are inspection-ready at all times.
- Ensuring action plans are implemented and followed through.
- Keeping up to date with changes to legislation, guidance and regulatory requirements.
- Working with the Partners and management team to continually improve the quality and safety of our services.
Practice Growth & Marketing
We are ambitious about the future of the practice and are looking to grow our patient list and strengthen our presence within the local community.
The successful candidate will therefore have an active role in supporting the practice's growth strategy. This will include contributing ideas and initiatives around marketing, patient engagement, social media and community presence.
You will work with the wider management team to:
- Develop and implement ideas to support patient list growth.
- Identify opportunities to promote the practice and its services.
- Assist with social media content and regular practice communications.
- Support the promotion of new and existing services.
- Consider innovative ways of engaging with our local community.
- Help ensure the practice has a professional, approachable and positive public profile.
We are particularly keen to find someone who is enthusiastic about developing the practice and who can bring fresh ideas to how we engage with both existing and prospective patients.
Working Across Our PracticesWe have a strong and collaborative management structure, and we are looking for someone who is willing to support our other Practice Managers when required.
The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the wider management team and, where necessary, provide support to other practices within a reasonable and commutable distance.
This may include providing additional management support during periods of staff absence, assisting with specific projects or compliance work, sharing knowledge and best practice, or helping colleagues with operational challenges.

About YouWe are looking for an experienced Practice Manager who is confident, organised and able to work independently while also being a strong team player.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a General Practice/Practice Manager.
- A strong understanding of NHS general practice.
- Good knowledge of CQC requirements and regulatory compliance.
- Experience of working with ICBs and other external organisations.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Strong communication and people-management skills.
- Experience of staff training, development and performance management.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
- A proactive approach to governance, risk management and continuous improvement.
- Confidence in identifying problems and implementing practical solutions.
- An interest in practice development, marketing and patient engagement.
- A flexible and collaborative approach to working across the wider management team.

We are a multi-site operator with a large supportive admin team comprising of Group Manager, Assistant Manager, administrators , 7 reception supervisors and 3 GP leads.
