Job summary

Join us as the Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders (MEED) Liaison Practitioner (Adult), a specialist Band 7 role supporting safe, compassionate and evidence-based care for adults with severe eating disorders across South Yorkshire acute hospitals. You will provide expert clinical leadership, assessment and advice, supporting implementation of Royal College of Psychiatrists MEED guidance while working alongside multidisciplinary teams. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian with extensive eating disorder experience to influence patient safety, develop staff capability, improve pathways and drive quality improvement across organisational boundaries.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist assessment, care planning and clinical leadership for adults admitted with severe eating disorders; deliver expert advice on medical stabilisation, nutritional rehabilitation, refeeding and risk management; support ward teams through education, supervision and competency development; work collaboratively with acute trusts, mental health services, primary care and partner organisations; contribute to governance, audit, service development and implementation of MEED and NICE guidance; and lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

Job description

The post holder acts as the specialist clinical lead for adults admitted to acute hospitals with severe eating disorders, providing expert assessment, treatment planning and advice in line with MEED guidance. They will support multidisciplinary teams through clinical leadership, education, supervision and consultation, ensuring safe, evidence-based and person-centred care. Responsibilities include pathway development, governance, quality improvement, audit, staff competency development, collaborative working across South Yorkshire acute and mental health services, risk assessment and management, service development, maintaining accurate clinical records, and contributing to research and implementation of best practice.
