Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and forward thinking Pharmacist to join our Paediatric Oncology service at the Great North Children's Hospital. This role forms part of a wider reorganisation of oncology pharmacy services, including the establishment of a Senior Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Paediatric Oncology, to strengthen clinical pharmacy support across paediatric cancer pathways.
We are seeking an experienced pharmacist ready to work at an advanced level within a specialist tertiary children's hospital. The successful candidate will provide high quality, patient-centred clinical pharmacy input, supporting the safe and effective delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), including clinical trials, and contributing to the multidisciplinary care of children and young people with cancer.
Working closely with the Senior Lead Clinical Pharmacist, the postholder will support the development of advanced clinical services, contribute to service improvement, and play a key role in the evolving paediatric oncology pharmacy model.
Based at the Great North Children's Hospital on the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) site, the service provides comprehensive regional paediatric oncology care, including inpatient and day case SACT and clinical trial activity.

Main duties of the job
- Provide advanced clinical pharmacy input to paediatric oncology services, ensuring the safe and effective use of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), including clinical trials.
- Work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the care of children and young people with cancer.Support the delivery, governance, and optimisation of clinical trials and investigational medicinal products within paediatric oncology.
- Lead and contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
- Line manage and support the development of designated pharmacy staff, contributing to workforce planning, supervision, and appraisal processes.
- Work closely with the Senior Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Paediatric Oncology to develop and implement the evolving pharmacy service model.
- Provide expert advice and education to pharmacy staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to the development and review of guidelines, protocols, and policies relating to paediatric oncology and SACT.
- Participation in the extended-hours pharmacy service (evenings & weekends).

- To organise and develop clinical pharmacy services within agreed clinical area.
- To undertake an agreed prescribing role within agreed clinical area.
- To participate in the provision of clinical and patient services functions.
- To promote the safe, rational and cost effective use of medicines by working closely with nursing and medical staff and health care managers.
- To perform the professional role of a registered pharmacist, including advice, supervision and co-operation with colleagues, particularly in relation to support/cover for absent colleagues.
