Job summary

The role is an excellent entry point into the NHS, offering hands-on experience, full training and opportunities for career progression, including access to nursing and occupational therapy apprenticeships.

You'll work closely with patients, their families and carers, playing a vital part in ensuring everyone who uses our services has a positive and supportive experience. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you'll work alongside nurses, activity coordinators, social workers and occupational therapists, offering you a unique chance to learn from different specialties every day.

We aim to rehabilitate or re-able people to return to their own homes, or where people are not able to return home to have undertaken appropriate assessment and liaise with relevant services to find an appropriate place for them.

You'll bring compassion and commitment, and we'll equip you with:

*A structured 6 month Healthcare support worker induction

*On-the-job training

*Opportunities to complete recognised care qualifications

*Access to career development programmes

If you are new to Health Care we will place you on a HCSW induction programme to ensure that you are fully trained and supported to perform the role. The programme will last for up to 6 months and during this period of training you will be paid a salary of £25272. On completion of your training period your salary will rise to £25760.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for Healthcare support workers across our services within the Western Community Hospital, Southampton. It incorporates 2 physical rehabilitation wards Keats and Conan Doyle.

Snowdon specialises in the treatment of people with physical and cognitive limitations following a recent neurological event or a long term neurological condition.

We also have Primrose ward that provides intensive care, assessment and treatment ward for older people who have acute functional mental health needs, such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.

You will work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, supporting patients to build independence and develop daily living skills, including personal hygiene, diet and fluids and participation in social activities as outlined in their Care Plan.

Assist and support qualified staff, carrying out assigned tasks as directed, without supervision. This will include housekeeping duties where required.

Demonstrate excellent communication skills, using them to engage, persuade or negotiate with clients with complex or challenging needs to ensure they receive the most appropriate care and support..
