Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a experienced, passionate and dynamic nurse to undertake the role of Teenage Cancer Trust Outreach Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Teenage and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer. This autonomous individual will be employed by Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, but will work across the South East Wales region - including Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and Velindre NHS Trust. Through job planning, the post holder will based across hospitals in the South East Wales area. We are looking for a motivated individual to join a team dedicated to improving the lives of Teenager and Young Adults with cancer.

This post is fixed term for 26 months to October 2028 due to funding.

Main duties of the job

This CNS will work with a wide range multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure that all TYA patients receive age appropriate care and emotional support regardless of where they are treated in South East Wales.

The successful candidate will promote excellence in nursing practice through the delivery of higher level nursing care to young people with cancer. Working within agreed protocols and guidelines the CNS will provide a seamless quality pathway for TYA cancer patients throughout their treatment; from admission to discharge.

The CNS will work within different clinical settings to best support the needs of the young person. They will assist in the co-ordination of all patient services ensuring that such services are patient focused and reflects the philosophy of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

In collaboration with the TYA Lead Clinician and TYA Senior Nurse, the CNS will have a key role in the development and co-ordination of cancer services for young people closer to home.

The CNS will work with the TYA Senior Nurse and local Cancer Lead Nurses to provide focused and professional leadership for nurses delivering care for TYA cancer patients. The post holder will adopt an educational role to enhance the specialist knowledge of all professional groups involved in the care of TYA cancer patients.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
