Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Non-Medical Prescriber to join our established team of Advanced Clinical Mental Health Pharmacists, supporting the Central Locality Mental Health Advice and Guidance service.
This is a fixed-term opportunity for 12 months and offers the successful candidate the chance to be part of a developing and innovative team working across the interface between primary and secondary mental health care.
The post holder will provide timely, evidence-based advice in response to mental health medication queries submitted by primary care clinicians through the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS). Working within their professional scope of competence, they will use advanced clinical assessment and prescribing knowledge to support safe and effective treatment decisions, medicines optimisation and appropriate onward care.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Advanced Clinical Mental Health Pharmacists, medical colleagues, GPs, primary care teams and wider multidisciplinary services. They will act as a source of specialist advice, support effective communication between services and help primary care clinicians make informed decisions for people with mental health needs.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 7 Non-Medical Prescriber within the Advice and Guidance Service, you will:
- Provide specialist mental health medication advice and support to primary care clinicians through the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS).
- Practise as an independent or supplementary prescriber within your scope of competence and in line with Trust policies, national guidance and professional standards.
- Undertake clinical assessments and make informed decisions regarding treatment, prescribing, medicines optimisation and ongoing management.
- Assess and manage prescribing-related risks, promoting safe and effective use of mental health medication.
- Work collaboratively with Advanced Clinical Mental Health Pharmacists, psychiatrists, GPs, primary care teams and multidisciplinary colleagues to support high-quality patient care.
- Act as a source of expert advice for medication-related queries, supporting colleagues and improving access to specialist mental health expertise
Job description
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse with a nurse prescribing qualification to develop their specialist practice within an evolving service. The post holder will be supported through appropriate professional supervision and continuing professional development, while remaining accountable for maintaining their prescribing competence and professional registration.
