Job summary

We are seeking an experienced, innovative and highly motivated Qualified Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People to join our multidisciplinary Auditory Implant Service for South Wales.

Working collaboratively with families, and a range of professional teams you will provide a specialist pre and post implant assessment and habilitation service for children and those supporting them. As part of a well-established regional service, you will support children and their families throughout South,Southwest and Mid Wales. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to travel across the region, working flexibly to meet the needs of children and families in diverse locations and settings.

Main duties of the job

To provide a highly specialistservice for the assessment and diagnosis of the communication skills in profoundly deaf infants, children and young people both before and after cochlear implantation. The postholder must demonstrate a high level of clinical skill, professional knowledge and highly developed auditory, perceptual and empathetic skills to complete an accurate and holistic assessment profile.

The post holder will contribute a high level of professional expertise to the multi-disciplinary team by providing the Educational Professionals perspective in the multi-professional assessment and management of children with cochlear implants.

The post holder will be expected to provide an out-reach service across South Wales, delivered in the Childrens Hospital for Wales, nurseries/schools and on a domiciliary basis in patients homes. The post holder will be responsible for their designated caseloadand will ensure the completion and distribution of team review reports.

The post holder will be required to work effectively in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary Cochlear Implant Team, as well as providing a high level of specialist clinical expertise, advice, guidance, support and training to the wider team supporting children under the Cochlear Implant Teams care. This includes childrens families, education staff and other health professionals, including SLTs within the UHB and across South Wales.

The post holder will undertake best practice projects, audits and research initiatives. They will be required to provide training/supervision of TOD students.
