Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic gardener to work within our estates department on a permanent basis based at Cross Lane Hospital.

The successful postholder will be responsible for the provision of an efficient, cost effective, Grounds and Gardens maintenance service to all properties owned/leased by Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust for the purpose of health care.

The post holder will carry out grounds and gardens maintenance to all properties owned/leased by Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, you will promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities and you will promote at all times a positive image of the Ground and Gardens Service within the Estates and Facilities Management Directorate and the wider Trust.

You must have the Right to Work in the UK in order to be successfully appointed to this role. Please note, this role does not meet the required eligibility criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa and therefore the Trust is unable to offer sponsorship for this particular role.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will contribute to the development and delivery of agreed gardening service plans, ensuring that the grounds and garden areas are maintained to the required standards.

You will work in accordance with the agreed schedules and rosters to support the delivery of an effective and cost-efficient service to the Trust.

You will respond appropriately to informal complaints where possible and escalates significant or unresolved matters promptly to the Grounds and Gardens Supervisor.

Undertakes a range of gardening duties to include:

• Preparing ground for seeding and planting activities.
• Sowing seeds and establishing a variety of plants.
• Assessing, maintaining and improving general amenity turf areas.
• Creating and maintaining decorative amenity areas, including mixed borders, formal bedding, containers and climbing plants.
• Carrying out edging, staking and pruning of ornamental flowering trees, shrubs and plants.

In addition to this, the post holder will maintain grounds, footpaths, car parks, roadways and associated areas in a clean and orderly condition, ensuring gullies and gutters remain clear of leaves and debris,

You will complete training and attend courses considered beneficial to the role and to the individual's continued development with in the Health Service.

You will undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and capabilities of the post holder, as directed by the Grounds and Gardens Supervisor.
