Job summary

The post holder will be encouraged to develop their professional role in accordance with the evolution of clinical services and with their own clinical interests, career plan and professional development.

Regular educational events including journal clubs and case conferences are held within the Trust.

Those appointed will benefit from access to both the SAS Advocate and SAS Tutor as well as Professional Lead to support career development and offer pastoral support, will join an active, friendly and supportive SAS doctor group in LYPFT, will have protected minimum monthly hourly supervision with their consultant supervisor, access to SAS CPD, facilitation in joining a SAS peer group, annual appraisal and job planning, will be a member of the SAS Committee, if applicable, will have access to our Trustwide teaching programme, and will benefit from 2 sessions a week of protected SPA time as standard.

Revalidation and appraisal is well established within the Trust and it is expected that all Specialty Doctors will actively participate in the annual medical appraisal process

Main duties of the job

Providing an additional medical resource to the LPOP team. e.g. conducting assessments on older people in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust wards (mainly at St James's University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary) providing advice to general hospital colleagues, forming initial management plans, contributing to emergency cover and delivering education and training sessions for general hospital colleagues of all disciplines.

The appointee will join a multi-disciplinary team consisting of doctors, band 6 nurses, a clinical team manager and health support worker.

LPOP is integrated with other parts of the Mental Health Service in Leeds. Provision includes inpatient wards, community mental health teams, a memory service as well as an intensive community service.
