Job summary

The Trust Lead for Advanced Clinical Practice will provide strategic leadership for the development, implementation and governance of Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) across the Trust. Working closely with the Chief Nurse, professional leads and senior leadership teams, the post holder will lead delivery of a multiprofessional advanced practice strategy aligned to Trust objectives and workforce transformation programmes.

The post holder will provide expert advice, leadership and professional support to ACPs from all professional backgrounds, ensuring robust frameworks for education, supervision, competency assessment, governance and continuing professional development. They will oversee the development of trainee and qualified ACP roles, supporting high standards of autonomous clinical practice and service delivery.

The role includes leading the growth and evaluation of advanced practice across the Trust, influencing local, regional and national agendas, and maintaining strong partnerships with education providers and external stakeholders. The post holder will support recruitment, induction, teaching, mentorship, audit and research activities within ACP programmes, promoting innovation, evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.

The post holder will also undertake regular advanced clinical practice, acting as a role model and supporting newly qualified ACPs while championing the ACP profession internally and externally.

Main duties of the job

o Provide professional leadership for Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) across the Trust.o Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the Trust Advanced Practice Strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.o Work with clinical leaders to support workforce planning, recruitment and service development for ACP roles.o Collaborate with education providers to develop and commission advanced practice programmes that meet workforce needs.o Establish and maintain governance frameworks compliant with statutory, regulatory and professional standards.o Lead workforce development initiatives, ensuring ACP training supports service transformation and patient care.o Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of ACPs across services.o Oversee education, competency, credentialing and professional development of ACPs.o Drive the four pillars of Advanced Practice: Clinical Practice, Leadership, Education and Research.o Develop Trust-wide competencies and portfolios for advanced and consultant-level practice.o Provide expert advice on advanced and consultant practice to senior leaders and the Trust Board.o Keep abreast of developments in advanced practice and implement relevant improvements.o Review advanced and specialist roles across professions, identifying opportunities to strengthen and standardise practice.o Promote best practice, innovation and collaboration across acute and community services.
