We have an exciting opportunity for a part-timeAdvanced Clinical Practitioner to join our IntegratedMental Health team with an element of shared care across the widerteam at HMP Wakefield, a category A prison in Wakefield.

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner (Mental Health) will be a patient-facing, non-managerial role and play a pivotal role in delivering high quality, evidence based mental health care within the prison environment.

Hours

Working 37.5 hours a week, either working 4x long days 8-6 or 8-4 Monday to Friday.

Salary

This position is full time,you'll receive an annual salary up to £66,792 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As anAdvanced Clinical Practitioner,your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Provide advanced assessment, formulation, diagnosis, and management of individuals presenting with a wide range of mental health conditions, including severe mental illness, personality disorder, trauma related needs, complex dual diagnoses.
  • You will promote best practice, clinical supervision, and a culture of reflection and learning, by pro-actively leading and motivating the team. You will support and work alongside clinical leads and team members to deliver training sessions to healthcare and prison staff on mental health, risk,trauma,behaviour management.
  • You will participate in internal and external inspections, reviews and professional meetings which will drive quality improvement and contribute to service transformation projects within the mental health pathway
  • Work alongside the clinical lead to contribute to service development, provide clinical leadership across pathways, and support the delivery of trauma informed, person centred, and safe care.

Job description

As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner you need expert clinical skills and demonstrate judgement in assessing and managing wide ranging and complex patient problems. You will provide clinical leadership for the mental health team. This multi-disciplinary team is made up of a variety of registered and non-registered professionals including; mental health, and substance misuse practitioners. You will act as a role model ensuring professional appearance and maintaining professional standards at all times.

Supporting senior clinicians on site you will be part of the daily leadership team, providing clinical input for all patients. As a clinical expert in your field, you will work with the team to ensure; patient safety, the management of complex cases and ensure the most up to date treatment methodology is applied to patient care.

You will also;

Provide outstanding evidence based care, listening and acting on patient feedback. Ensuring that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them. You will also provide assessment, diagnostics, treatment and continued management of patients with acute and long term medical conditions.

Deliver non-judgemental care by leading the team to deliver care that is safe, high quality, patient centred whilst meeting CQC requirements following our policies, procedures and always considering safeguarding.

Inspire excellence in your colleagues by pro-actively leading and motivating the team recognising that our workforce is our most valuable asset. You will provide professional leadership to the nursing team to ensure we provide a service that people can trust, feel safe within and feel proud of.

Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence based care and continuous quality improvement embedding a culture of reflection and shared learning.

Qualifications required:

  • Registered Nurse Mental Health, with current NMC registration.We will consider applicants from other professional disciplines who can demonstrate experience of working with patients with complex MH conditions
  • Independent/supplementary prescriber qualification
  • MSc in Advanced Practice
  • Experience of working within mental health services, ideally in secure mental health, crisis, acute, community settings and good knowledge of the MHA
  • Understanding of risk management, self-harm prevention, suicide prevention, trauma-informed care
  • Drive quality improvement, clinical audit, governance and contribute to service transformation projects
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to Band 7 clinicians, RMNs, HCAs, and students.
