We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team

Main duties of the job

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across the hospice and support the delivery of the PPM schedule, ensuring tasks are completed, recorded and escalated where required.
• Respond to reactive maintenance requests, faults, breakdowns and urgent repairs in a safe and timely way using technical skills to resolve where appropriate including decorating, building fabric maintenance and plumbing repairs within competency
• Monitor and support the Building Management System, including reviewing alarms, plant status and system performance where trained and authorised to.
• Carry out routine checks across all areas of the building.
• Support IPU maintenance needs sensitively, ensuring patient safety, dignity, infection prevention and minimal disruption to care.
• Carry out PAT testing and maintain relevant records where trained and competent.
• Support retail shops with planned and reactive maintenance, minor repairs, contractor access and urgent issues when required.
• Assist contractors attending site, including access arrangements, permits, site safety, supervision and confirmation that work has been completed appropriately.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, defects found, parts used, outstanding actions and follow-up requirements including stock management
• Support emergency response arrangements for leaks, blocked drains, loss of heating, lighting issues, fire alarm concerns, access problems, power issues and urgent safety matters.

We are looking for someone who can:

Prioritise workload effectively, balancing planned maintenance, reactive tasks and urgent operational needs.

Diagnose basic building and equipment faults and escalate complex technical issues appropriately.

Think practically and safely when working in patient, staff and retail environments.

Understand the importance of statutory compliance, Health & Safety and accurate record keeping.

Communicate clearly with colleagues, contractors, clinical teams, shop teams, patients, families and visitors.

Work independently while also contributing positively to the wider Facilities team.

Remain calm and solution-focused during urgent repairs, service disruptions or emergency situations.

Identify risks and take appropriate action to prevent harm, disruption or further damage.

Understand the importance of confidentiality, sensitivity and professionalism in a hospice environment.
