Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Support worker role in the East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust to join the Pharmacy Department at the Lister Hospital. You will be responsible for undertaking and successfully completing a Level 2 Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Health (Pharmacy Services) and/or a Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) as part of your role. You will work closely with the Pharmacy team, supporting the delivery of safe and effective pharmacy services while developing your knowledge, skills and experience within the department.

Main duties of the job

As a Pharmacy Support Worker role, you will be responsible for assisting with the receipt, storage and issue of pharmaceutical products, ensuring all associated records are accurately maintained. You will be responsible for receiving deliveries at the Pharmacy Stores door or collecting goods from the hospital rear entrance, signing and dating receipts, and checking delivered items for quantity and quality against orders and delivery documentation. You will be managing stock using current inventory management systems, including Pharmacy automation, to support the distribution and replenishment of pharmaceutical products. You will be responsible for monitoring stock expiry dates in line with the agreed timetable, accurately receipting goods onto the computer system, and using guided pick technology to select and store items in their allocated locations. You will also be responsible for using the Pharmacy automation system to input and pick stock in accordance with established procedures.

• To maintain accountability for the accuracy, security, and appropriate management of pharmacy stock within allocated areas, ensuring any concerns are identified and escalated through the appropriate channels.
• To contribute to the effective coordination of pharmacy stores and distribution activities, supporting continuity of supply and ensuring operational requirements are addressed within agreed departmental arrangements.
• To uphold established quality, safety, and governance standards when handling pharmaceutical products, recognising and reporting any circumstances that may compromise product condition, security, or compliance.
• To support effective stock management by contributing to the identification of discrepancies, monitoring stock-related issues, and ensuring relevant information is communicated promptly to responsible team members.
• To maintain effective working relationships with pharmacy colleagues and service users, providing appropriate operational support and communicating information clearly to facilitate the smooth running of the service.
• To contribute to the continuous and reliable operation of the Pharmacy Stores and Distribution service by following departmental requirements, maintaining professional knowledge, and supporting service activities as required.
