Practice Nurse – Fixed TermGP Practice

Hartwood Healthcare are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive clinical team on a fixed-term basis.

We are a busy GP practice based at Hartcliffe Health Centre in South Bristol, caring for a diverse population of over 8,500 patients.

The successful applicant will join our existing nursing and wider clinical team and will provide a range of Practice Nursing services, working alongside our GPs, Treatment Room team, Healthcare Assistants and wider multidisciplinary team.

The role

The role will include:

Routine Practice Nurse clinics and appointments

Long-term condition reviews and management within your scope of practice

Wound care, including removal of sutures and staples

Venepuncture and ECGs

Adult and childhood immunisations and vaccinations

Cervical screening, where appropriately trained

Health promotion and preventative healthcare

Supporting patients with self-management and healthy lifestyle choices

Requesting and reviewing investigations within your scope of practice

Maintaining accurate clinical records

Recognising when patients require further clinical assessment and referring appropriately

Supporting safeguarding and infection prevention and control

Working collaboratively with the wider clinical team

Contributing to clinical audit, quality improvement and practice development

We are looking for someone who is confident working independently, but who also enjoys being part of a team. You will be adaptable, approachable and committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care.

This is a fixed-term position and will provide additional nursing capacity within the practice. We are keen to hear from experienced Practice Nurses, as well as nurses with relevant transferable experience who are interested in developing their skills within primary care.

Our clinical team includes GP Partners, salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, Treatment Room nursing staff, Healthcare Assistants, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, a Paramedic, Social Prescriber and other members of the wider multidisciplinary team.

Person specification

Essential

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration

Experience of working autonomously

Good clinical assessment and decision-making skills

Experience of wound care

Experience of venepuncture

Experience of ECGs

Experience of immunisations and vaccinations

Good understanding of infection prevention and control

Ability to work within own scope of practice and recognise when referral or support is required

Ability to maintain accurate clinical records

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Commitment to ongoing professional development

Desirable

Previous experience working as a Practice Nurse

Experience of working in primary care

Experience of chronic disease management

Cervical screening qualification

Independent prescribing qualification

Experience of travel medicine

Experience of clinical audit or quality improvement

Contract: Fixed term

Hours: Up to 30 hours a week

Salary: Dependent on experience

Duration: 6-12 months
