Job summary

• Provide comprehensive consultant-led care in rhinology, anterior skull base surgery and general ENT practice.
• Deliver secondary and tertiary rhinology services including management of inflammatory sinonasal disease, revision endoscopic sinus surgery and complex sinonasal pathology.
• Participate in the regional anterior skull base multidisciplinary service, working closely with Neurosurgery, Radiology, Pathology, Oncology and specialist nursing colleagues.
• Contribute to the assessment and surgical management of patients with sinonasal tumours and other complex rhinological conditions.
• Work collaboratively with Ophthalmology colleagues in the delivery of lacrimal services, including endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR).
• Support established multidisciplinary pathways with Neurosurgery for endoscopic anterior skull base surgery.
• Contribute to emergency ENT services through participation in a 1:8 on-call rota.
• Support teaching, training, audit, clinical governance and research activities within the department.
• Participate in service development and regional pathway delivery across Devon and Cornwall.

Main duties of the job

To provide a consultant-led ENT service with specialist expertise in advanced rhinology and anterior skull base surgery within the Peninsula's sole tertiary referral centre.

The successful candidate will become a member of the regional skull base multidisciplinary team, working closely with colleagues in Neurosurgery, Radiology, Pathology, Oncology and allied specialist services.

The role will support the continued delivery of comprehensive secondary and tertiary rhinology services across the Southwest Peninsula, including endoscopic sinus surgery, management of complex sinonasal disease and participation in established anterior skull base pathways. The post offers opportunities to contribute to service development, education, clinical governance and multidisciplinary working within a well-established consultant team.

The department operates with a flexible and collegiate consultant structure to ensure sustainable delivery of both secondary and tertiary ENT services. The successful candidate will join an experienced and supportive consultant team with established subspecialty interests across rhinology, skull base surgery, head and neck surgery, otology and laryngology. The post offers opportunities to further develop multidisciplinary rhinology and anterior skull base services in collaboration with colleagues across the Trust and wider Peninsula network.

• Full GMC registration
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CSER(CP) proposed CCT/CESR(CP) date must be within 6 months of interview, CESR or European Community Rights.

• Higher degrees
• Postgraduate awards and prizes
• Other medical qualifications

Experience outside specialty

Demonstrate evidence of good clinical training

Undergraduate Teaching

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is one of the NHS partners of the University of Plymouth Peninsula Medical School. The Directorate has a commitment to a significant part of the clinical undergraduate teaching programme. The post holder will be expected to participate in undergraduate teaching activities. Additional job planned sessions for protected teaching time would be agreed by mutual agreement with the Service Line Director. Such arrangements will be agreed within the Trusts' annual job planning and medical staff appraisal process.

Proposed Job Plan

Details of the proposed job plan should be set out below.

Whilst a standard job plan would consist of 10 PAs, we would be able to consider whether the post could be undertaken on a flexible or less than full-time basis. On the appointment 1.5 SPA standard (1 SPA timetabled and 0.5 SPAs flexible). This may increase as the appointee becomes more involved in undergraduate or post graduate teaching or other department activities.
