Endoscopy Decontamination Technician (Bangor)NHS
Job summary
We are seeking experienced Decontamination Technicians to support a large-scale Endoscopy service aimed at reducing patient waiting times and improving access to diagnostic procedures. The service will play a key role in addressing the endoscopy backlog, ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality care. Based within a busy endoscopy environment, you will be responsible for the safe decontamination, inspection, traceability, and storage of endoscopes in accordance with national infection prevention and control standards.
Main duties of the job
- Receive and process used endoscopes following procedures.
- Carry out manual cleaning and disinfection of endoscopic equipment.
- Operate Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs), including Steelco systems where trained.
- Inspect endoscopes for cleanliness, functionality, and signs of damage.
- Maintain accurate records to ensure full instrument traceability.
- Store decontaminated endoscopes safely and prepare equipment for clinical use.
- Monitor decontamination equipment performance and report faults promptly.
- Ensure compliance with national decontamination guidelines, infection prevention standards, and local policies.
- Support the smooth running of the endoscopy service by maintaining efficient turnaround times without compromising quality or patient safety

- Ensure accurate documentation and traceability of endoscopes throughout the decontamination process.
- Store decontaminated endoscopes safely and prepare equipment for reuse.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention, health and safety, and decontamination regulations.
- Monitor decontamination equipment and promptly report any faults or maintenance requirements.
- Work closely with the wider endoscopy team to ensure the efficient delivery of services and minimise procedure delays.
- Contribute to a high-quality, patient-focused service by maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and quality assurance.
