We are seeking an exceptional, values-driven leader to become Joint Chief Finance Officer for Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.

This role comes at a critical and exciting point in the transformation of health and care services across Wirral. As both organisations prepare to come together through a statutory transaction in 2027, you will help shape the future of the new integrated provider, and influence strategy at the highest level while leading the development of a sustainable financial future that enables high-quality, compassionate and innovative care.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will provide executive leadership across Finance, Digital and Information, and Procurement, whilst serving as the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO).

Main duties of the job

The Opportunity

We are looking for a strategic leader who can combine financial expertise with commercial acumen, systems thinking and a commitment to public service. You will work alongside executive and clinical colleagues to shape strategy, lead transformation, strengthen organisational performance and deliver long-term financial sustainability across both Trusts.

You will:

• Lead the development and delivery of a joint financial strategy across two organisations.
• Provide trusted advice and constructive challenge to Boards and Executive Teams.
• Drive financial recovery, efficiency and sustainable performance.
• Lead modern, high-performing Finance, Procurement and Digital functions.
• Build strong partnerships across the NHS, local authorities, regulators and the wider Cheshire and Merseyside system.
• Champion innovation, transparency, inclusion and continuous improvement

Job description

About You

You will be an experienced board-level leader with a track record of delivering strategic and operational success in complex organisations. You will be a qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with the experience, credibility and influence to operate confidently at executive and system level.

You will bring:

• Significant Board-level leadership experience within the NHS or a comparable complex healthcare environment.
• A strong record of developing and implementing financial strategy.
• Experience of leading large-scale transformation and organisational change.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to translate complex financial information into clear strategic decisions.
• A collaborative leadership style and commitment to developing future leaders.
