Job summary

We are looking for Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to join our Orthopaedic Team and Anaesthetic Team within the elective theatre department at Hexham General Hospital.

Previous theatre experience would be an advantage, however a comprehensive training package is in place for newly qualified staff, or those new to the theatre environment.

The successful candidate should be motivated and enthusiastic and committed to delivering safe, high quality care.

Main duties of the job

• Delivering excellent standards of care and providing patient support, advocating on behalf of the dependent patient.
• Undertaking the role of the orthopaedic scrub or Anaesthetic practitioner, ensuring safe practice is maintained and patients have a positive and safe procedure and delivering high quality care.
• Working with, and supporting other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Ensuring all equipment is maintained and in working condition.
• Supervising junior colleagues, unregistered staff and students within your role and working alongside other wards and departments and other members of the MDT

• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care under the direction of the senior nurse/SODP
• To assist in the provision of nursing care and maintain high clinical standards
• To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
• Develop over time and contribute to the management of a clinical area and take charge in the absence of Senior Nurse/ODP
• To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust.This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates teamworking and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
