Job summary

This is your opportunity to work in a busy and ever adapting Same Day Emergency Care department. We operate 7 days per week servicing patients within the Shropshire and Welsh borders. We provide same day services to patients that may otherwise have required admission to an acute hospital. We provide rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of conditions including DVT, PE, Chest pain, Headaches and various other ailments. The role involves coordination of a busy unit with high turn over of patients, as well as effectively managing both Nursing and Medical Teams to ensure timely treatment and discharge of patients.

You will be an experienced RGN and be able to lead and supervise the work of the nursing team, building upon your own clinical and managerial experience. Sound clinical knowledge and experience in an acute setting is essential. The successful candidate must have a proven ability in supervising, managing and controlling the activities of a department in an efficient and effective manner.

You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have a proactive management style, anticipating and dealing with issues constructively within the multidisciplinary team setting. You must be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever-changing workload.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the Ward Managers with the continuous improvement of the department, effectively monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of care that are reflected by patient experience.

This will involve the assessment and implementation of appropriate care for new and current patients whilst ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained and resources used appropriately.

Showing commitment and direction to the team as a whole you will actively participate in the teaching, training and supervision of all grades of staff. You will be required to be receptive to change, be dynamic and demonstrate active assistance and support to your more senior colleagues in the ongoing development of the department.

Our Service will relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 as part of HTP. This move will bring specialist services together in a modern, purpose-built facility to improve patient care and team experience.

We are actively recruiting, and successful candidates will be expected to move with the Service in early 2028. The relocation will follow a formal management of change process, including full consultation and support for staff.
