Job summary

We are looking for a highly experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our supportive and highly skilled team of SLTs and assistant practitioners. You will be working with voice and upper airway patients across the care pathway, including supporting the delivery of our ENT-SLT Voice Clinic.

A full UK driving license is essential for this post. Please note that an international driving license is not accepted.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

• Lead, co-ordinate and deliver a high quality, evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy service to voice patients, requiring a highly advanced level of knowledge, skills and experience.
• Lead the development of an integrated voice and upper airway service pathway across acute and community settings, ensuring seamless patient care from referral through to discharge. The post holder will work across both UHCW and community services, providing highly specialist clinical input, supporting staff development and competency, and leading service improvement, pathway redesign and new models of working. It is anticipated that the role will include regular sessions across both settings, with flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the service.
• Provide clinical supervision, training and support to less experienced SLTs working in voice and dysphagia.
• Provide advanced speech and language therapy assessment and treatments and review for voice and patients referred into the service. This will be for patients in a variety of settings including, community clinics and at clinics at UHCW.
• Provide strategic clinical leadership in the evaluation and development of the voice service pathway, identifying areas for improvement and leading service transformation through innovative models of care, pathway redesign and collaborative working with ENT and wider multidisciplinary teams. Support delivery of the Joint Voice Clinic at UHCW in collaboration with colleagues from ENT.

Job description

• Be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and management of adults with voice needs within the service, prioritising clinical needs to provide an effective and efficient service.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in ENT and the multidisciplinary team to facilitate running the Joint Voice Clinic, supporting existing ENT clinics as well as developing new clinics at UHCW.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills to manage a caseload including highly complex and specialist voice and dysphagia cases, evidencing high level problem solving, reasoning skills and independence of judgement, seeking advice as appropriate.
• Assist with the identification of training needs within the team and contribute to regular formal and informal teaching and training, both within the profession and with other professionals or voluntary groups.
• Develop and support voice and dysphagia clinical competencies for staff at all levels (B5, B6, B7, B8a).
• Develop specific care plans and provide appropriate intervention using specialist knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements/decision making for case management.
• Provide specialist advice to others regarding the management and care of adults with dysphagia and voice difficulties using evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
• Work closely with relatives/carers and professionals to agree effective management of dysphagia and voice difficulties as needed.
• Comply with the safeguarding policies of the Trust, ensuring all concerns, incidents and allegations are reported in line with this.
• Demonstrate negotiation skills to develop effective working relationships with patients, carers and their families, and contribute to interagency/multidisciplinary team building, developing effective working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team, related agencies and colleagues.
