Overview

Whiteladies Medical Group is an established GP practice situated in a spacious, well-designed premises at Whiteladies Health Centre, Whatley Road, Bristol, BS8 2PU.

We serve nearly 16500 patients from our partner-owned premises. Our team comprises 6 partners, 8 salaried doctors, multiskilled nursing team, physiotherapists, pharmacist and social prescriber, supported by highly motivated management and support team

We are dedicated to providing excellent patient care and an enthusiastic and supportive environment for all our staff.  We strongly believe in the importance of teaching, training GP trainees and medical students and have a commitment to high quality clinical research with a large research portfolio.

High QoF achievement and “Good” CQC rating.

Our Primary Care Network, Healthwest, covers 70000 patients and was functioning prior to the PCN national contract. Across our network we delivered over 60000 Covid vaccinations. Our PCN has a Prescribing Hub which manages the prescription request for all four practices in the PCN. We also have an IT Hub which helps us supports our safety and efficiency agenda. The PCN staff include a manager, clinical pharmacists, nursing associates, prescribing clerks and social prescribers.

The practice occupies a purpose-built, well-maintained building with ample space over two floors. Patient services are located on both floors.  There are 19 consulting rooms and one treatment room.  An independent pharmacy is also based within the building.

The practice provides services to the whole of Northwest Bristol – Clifton, Redland, Hotwells, Westbury, Bishopston, Horfield and St Andrews.  An area map can be found on the practice website.

The stable practice population stands at around 16,500 patients.  The clinical team consists of six partners (all GPs), eight salaried GPs and a Clinical Prescribing Pharmacist.  There are three practice nurses led by a Nurse Manager, including nurse prescribers and three health care assistants/phlebotomists.  They are supported by a reception and administrative team of 14 staff including an Operational Manager, Patient Services Manager, HR & Finance administrator, all led by Practice Manager.

There is limited parking provision for staff and patients on the practice premises.

The practice is part of the BNSSG Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board.

The Role

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate robust leadership and communication skills, be well organised, highly motivated and financially astute.  There is a requirement to manage and take responsibility for all business aspects of the practice.  In addition, the candidate must have the ability to provide strategic guidance and planning to the partners.

The practice manager is a key member of the team and will be expected to demonstrate leadership qualities, achieving goals and targets using a combination of personal involvement, motivation of other staff and delegation when appropriate.

The partners also require the successful candidate to be proactive and plan for the future, maximising the practice’s potential in relation to business, finance and premises, whilst maximising patient’s care.  The candidate needs to ensure the partners are kept fully informed of local and national proposals and initiatives, presented clearly and concisely to enable them to make informed decisions.

An understanding of current NHS initiatives will be helpful; however, the NHS is changing substantially and rapidly and the introduction of new ideas and methods from outside the NHS presents an attractive proposition in the partnership. In addition to adapting the practice to meet the demands of providing high quality patient care, the manager will need to ensure that the practice is financially efficient and compliant with all aspects of health and safety, employment legislation and CQC (Care Quality Commission) registration/compliance.

Ability to present the practice to external groups

Ability to identify, develop and deliver initiatives

The ability to enjoy diversity and sometime – the unexpected

What We Offer

Competitive salary (depending upon experience).

The post is full-time 37.5 hrs, over five days and the hours will be as the post requires. The post-holder is required to attend any ad-hoc evening or weekend meeting as occasionally required.

Annual leave entitlement will be 25 days per annum plus all statutory bank holidays

Access to the NHS Pension Scheme

There will be a mutual assessment period of six months with quarterly reviews. During this probationary period notice will be one week.

Period of notice will be 3 months upon successful completion of the assessment period.

No sick leave entitlement under six months service
