The Shropshire Safeguarding Community Partnership (SSCP) are looking to appoint an Independent Scrutineer who can provide insight, challenge, independent views and scrutiny of the effectiveness of our children safeguarding arrangements and the extent to which we are embedding a practice-learning culture for children in Shropshire.

The core responsibility of this role is to provide independent challenge, enquiry, and investigation to assist the Partnership in fulfilling its statutory responsibilities under the Children Act 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026. Working as part of the partnership, the Scrutineer will work across Shropshire providing reports, commenting on assurance and performance, and evaluating the effectiveness of partnership arrangements.

This is a pivotal period to ensure the partnership’s work is closely aligned with the government’s Families First Partnership Programme, which prioritises supporting families at the earliest possible stage. The Independent Scrutineer will offer rigorous scrutiny and constructive feedback to ensure our approach not only reflects the principles of the Families First Partnership Programme but also delivers meaningful and positive outcomes for children and families across Shropshire.

The selection process for this role will involve:

A prescribed presentation

An interview panel comprising of the three Delegated Safeguarding Partners

An interview with a stakeholder panel.
