Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic and forward thinking Consultant Anaesthetist (or anaesthetists) to support the delivery and development of anaesthetic and perioperative services within Greater Lancashire Hospital.

The successful applicant/s will be expected to provide consultant-led anaesthetic services across a range of specialties and support the continued growth of surgical services within the hospital.

This role offers the opportunity to help shape future service development within a growing and ambitious healthcare organisation.

The successful candidate/s will provide high-quality consultant anaesthetic care to patients undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures within Greater Lancashire Hospital whilst maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, governance and professionalism.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will:

Provide consultant-led anaesthesia for elective surgery and procedures.

Undertake comprehensive pre-operative assessment and optimisation.

Deliver safe perioperative care.

Participate in enhanced recovery programmes.

Support the development of patient-centred pathways

Work collaboratively with surgeons, ODP's, nursing teams and allied health professionals.

Contribute to theatre efficiency and utilisation.

Participate in emergency response and clinical deterioration management, where required.

Participate in clinical governance programmes.

Undertake audit and quality improvement work.

Support incident review and learning processes.

Ensure compliance with CQC standards and professional guidance.

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.

Demonstrate visible clinical leadership.

Support service redesign and innovation.

Promote multidisciplinary working.

Mentor junior clinicians, colleagues and medical students.

Contribute to strategic planning and development of surgical services.

Support educational activities for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

Contribute to clinical teaching sessions.

Participate in skills training and simulation where appropriate

Support professional development across the multidisciplinary team.

Support quality improvement initiatives.

Participate in clinical audit.

Encourage evidence-based practice.

Contribute to service evaluations and research activity where appropriate.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Responsibilities

The post-holder/s will:

Provide consultant-led anaesthesia for elective surgery and procedures.

Undertake comprehensive pre-operative assessment and optimisation.

Deliver safe perioperative care.

Work collaboratively with surgeons, operating department practitioners, nursing teams and allied health professionals.

Contribute to theatre efficiency and utilisation.

Participate in emergency response and clinical deterioration management, where required.

Clinical GovernanceThe post-holder/s will:

Participate actively in clinical governance programmes.

Undertake audit and quality improvement work.

Support incident review and learning processes.

Participate in mortality and morbidity reviews where appropriate.

Ensure compliance with CQC standards and professional guidance.

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.
