Job summary
Pathology is the department that studies and understands how illness and diseases develop and the impact they have on people. Across University Hospital Birmingham's (UHB) the pathology laboratories support patient care through diagnosis, treatment and research through their well respected and accredited laboratories.
Our administrative and clerical teams are essential to the smooth running of the laboratories, and the Cellular Pathology department are seeking Medical Secretaries to join their team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive secretarial support, working closely with Pathologists, Biomedical Scientists, office colleagues and the office manager to have a positive impact on patient care.
Although the role will be site specific (Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham or Birmingham Heartlands Hospital), there may occasionally be a requirement to work cross-site. As part of this team, you will be a reliable and committed secretary who represents our Trust values of Kind, Connected and Bold. Previous secretarial experience is desirable, along with strong organisational and communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.
Main duties of the job

We are looking for a committed secretary who represents our Trust values of Kind, Connected and Bold. Previous secretarial experience is desirable, along with good typing, organisational and communication skills, attention to detail, along with the ability to work to strict deadlines. Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.
The successful candidate will handle confidential and sensitive information, interacting with people at all levels. Strong teamwork and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential. Duties include typing reports, email and telephone queries, co-ordinating Multi-Disciplinary Meetings, handling diagnostic material, incoming and outgoing post and liaising with medical and laboratory colleagues.
