Job summary

We are a happy, highly motivated and forward-thinking GMS Partnership with two practice sites in Totton, Hampshire looking for a Salaried GP who would like to work for a fixed term period of three months to cover sickness leave of one of our Partners, 5 sessions per week and you would hold a patient list. Working days would ideally be Tuesday AM & PM, Thursday AM and Friday AM & PM, although there may be some flexibility for the right candidate.

The start date is immediate. Applications are welcomed from newly qualified GPs.

At our practice our GPs are well supported by Workflow Optimisation, Pharmacy and Script Management Teams.

Many of our staff trained at the practice and we have several with long service awards including that of 30 years. The population we serve is diverse and varied stretching from affluent areas to pockets of significant deprivation and health inequalities.

We achieve highly at the Quality and Outcomes Framework each year, seek out new opportunities and are actively involved in our local PCN. We have approximately 85 members of staff and are a highly regarded training practice welcoming GP trainees, F2 doctors and medical students. We are a Level 1 Research Practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for a patient list and will carry out all associated clinical and administrative work nationally associated and accepted as being part of managing a patient list.

Salaried GPs at the practice undertake 13 patient contacts per session, with 15-minute appointments, alongside dedicated administrative time built into the working day to support safe and effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, develop care plans for health
  • Provide counselling and health education
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collect data for audit purposes
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • Contribute to the attainment of all quality indicators (QOF) and any local or national initiative that the practice takes part in
  • Complete insurance and other medical reports as required
  • Generally, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all normal clinical duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
