Job summary

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Community Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to join the East Staffordshire Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) based in Burton on Trent.

This role covers the East Staffordshire IMHT, comprising of one Primary Care Networks (PCNs); East Staffordshire, population134749.The post provides Consultant Psychiatrist cover for the whole IMHT, and the post holder will offer assessment and treatment to adults of working age with a range of mental health problems.

We also work collaboratively with partner agencies and community organisations to provide additional support and improve access to services for individuals with specific cultural, social or community-based needs.

Our multidisciplinary team is made up of a Consultant Psychologist, two Principal Psychologists, two CAPS Workers and two CBT Therapists, bringing together a broad range of expertise to support the complex needs of our service users.The team also has a unique multidisciplinary structure that supports our Consultants in delivering ESCAs. This includes two Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), Non-Medical Prescribers (NMPs), a Nurse Consultant, and a Pharmacist.

Main duties of the job

The role involves providing clinical leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure, and providing support and supervision as required to the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Non-Medical Prescribers. You will have responsibility to supervise a trainee attached to the team. Opportunities are also available in the Trust to participate in postgraduate & undergraduate education for Resident Doctors & medical students from Keele Medical School.

As the Community Consultant, you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team & in partnership with voluntary care sector organisations & acute care settings. You will require a strong background in Clinical leadership.

As part of this role, you will be expected to:

  • Ensure, in conjunction with the MDT, regular effective review of the care of patients in the clinical pathway - via individual assessments and follow up appointments, risk assessments, safeguarding needs and MDT meetings
  • Responsible Clinician for service users in the pathway who are subject to Community Treatment Order (CTO) where applicable.
  • Provide evidence-based care.
  • Be recovery focused.
  • Provide cross-cover (emergency and prospective) for other Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues by mutual agreement
  • Communicate with all key partners in an appropriate and timely way including service users, carers and General Practitioners.
  • Work within the requirements of service contracts including compliance with nationally agreed quality standards

In addition: On Call Work:

You will participate in an approx. 1:23 on call rota for Staffordshire the rota covers both adult and older adult psychiatry on the St Georges site as well as community cover for emergencies across South Staffordshire. The consultant is usually 3rdon call with support from a 2ndon call SAS Doctor or higher trainee and a 1ston call Junior Doctor. Occasionally, the consultant may be 2ndon call if there is a gap on the 2ndon call rota. Remuneration for on call work is currently via a 3 % availability supplement and 0.25 APA

You will take part in out of hours duties; on call work is remunerated at 3% as well as 0.25 APAs.

You will hold a caseload of approximately 100 150, many of which will have other clinicians in the IMHT working with them.
