Priory Hospital Dewsbury is looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adults (or General Adult Psychiatrist with experience in managing Older Adults).

Flexible hours up to 37.5 hours per week.

Based in the residential area of Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, Priory Hospital Dewsbury provides 32 beds, divided into two 16-bed wards for males who have mental health disorders. Hartley Ward is a level 2 Rehabilitation and Recovery Ward (Higher Support Needs). Jubilee Ward is an Older Adult service. Each service has a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist who performs the duties of Responsible Clinician.

The available post is for Jubilee Ward (10 bedded Specialist Dementia Service, and 6 bedded Functional Disorders).

An excellent opportunity for somebody looking to join an established team caring for individuals with Dementia. Jubilee Ward is a 16 bedded male unit which provides a therapeutic environment for men with dementia (10 beds) and Functional Disorders (6 beds). Most patients are under MHA. The Consultant will work closely with other experienced members of the MDT. The post would be suitable for an Older Adult Consultant Psychiatrist or a General Adult Psychiatrist, with experience of older adults.

Physical health input is provided by the on-site Specialist Physical Health Nurse and visiting GP.

Job description

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients wellbeing. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients

  • Taking clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews and the development of a therapeutic milieu.
  • Fulfilling the role of Responsible Clinician to patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
  • Supervising the process of referral and admission including contributing to preadmission assessments of young people with other team members.  Offering a psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team in relation to the assessment, formulation and treatment of adults.
