Job summary

The Central Shropshire Community Mental Health Team has an opportunity for a an EMDR and Complex Trauma Specialist Therapist to join the team working 28 hours per week. In the role you will be travelling as required within Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, providing clinical services directly face to face and remotely.

As an EMDR and Complex Trauma Specialist Therapist, you will assess, formulate and deliver high quality, evidence based psychological therapies for adults experiencing the effects of trauma, including PTSD and Complex PTSD.

You will hold a clinical caseload, providing trauma focused interventions such as EMDR and other NICE recommended approaches (t-CBT, NET) delivered flexibly through mostly face to face and a small number of digital appointments.

You will contribute to assessments, developing collaborative, person centred formulations and treatment plans informed by a psychological understanding of trauma. Accurate use of outcome measures, clinical documentation and electronic records will be an important part of your practice.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will offer consultation, advice and guidance to colleagues.You will be required to gather outcome data and contribute to on-going audits within the team around the effectiveness of therapy approaches.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist EMDR and Complex Trauma therapies within the Central Shropshire CMHT. To work with clients face-to-face alone, in Severnfields or other care environments, or at their home as necessary. Within this to be able to communicate highly complex information effectively in highly emotive situations and overcome psychological resistances to potentially threatening issues.
  • To be responsible for conducting psychological interviews, deriving information from self-report measures, rating scales, psychometrics (where necessary), direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care, interpreting complex data and giving feedback effectively and with sensitively.
  • To be skilled in risk assessment and management. These demands will incorporate frequent intense concentration often in emotionally demanding or unpredictable environments. The post holder will be expected to maintain high professional levels of clinical judgement and application of complex skills at all times.
  • To provide assessment reports, both written and verbal, to referrers of people with a wide range of psychological problems, in accordance with codes of professional ethics
  • Within consultation sessions and following assessment, to provide formulation and treatments for PTSD and C-PTSD to an exceptionally high standard to service users with a range of complex psychological distress and mental health problems.
