Job summary

We are seeking a substantive Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) to join the RUH (Royal United Hospital) department. Single ICM and dual trained applicants are encouraged to apply, with accommodation of a second specialty possible and by negotiation.

The Department of Anaesthesia, ICM and Chronic Pain remains cohesive and focused on joint objectives, as well as being involved in numerous areas of work across the Trust. Candidates with an ability to continue this cross-specialty working and collaboration will be highly valued.

We are looking for a high calibre committed candidate of proven ability who will be able to contribute fully to both clinical and managerial roles within the department. The candidate should bring skills or knowledge that will enhance and expand the services already provided. An ability to embrace change and to develop services for more effective care delivery will be considered an asset.

Main duties of the job

The holder of this post will be a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine.

Candidates with a dual-CCT will be considered. A partner specialty can be accommodated, with a split of workload between each department by negotiation. Current dual-trained consultants deliver approximately 60% of their DCC within ICU.

The post will be based at the RUH, and the holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Clinical Lead for Intensive Care.

A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and completion of diaries for continuing medical education is essential. It is mandatory that you have an annual appraisal and have a yearly pay progression meeting with the Clinical Lead.

The post holder will be expected to work with local managers, professional colleagues and allied medical professionals to ensure the safe and efficient running of services.

Consultants are required to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of clinical areas where they work.
