Job summary

At NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT), we are a unique service that works with our generous donors and patients to save and improve lives. We are on a mission to ensure that every patient receives the donation they need and you will be joining our Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation (OTDT) Directorate to help make that happen.

We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to be based within our Organ Donation & Transplantation (ODT) Hub to be responsible for the clinical leadership and delivery of the organ offering/allocation service in the UK.

Main duties of the job

  • Being a member of a highly specialist team within NHSBT, responsible in conjunction with the Head of Service Delivery ODT Hub for the clinical leadership delivery of the organ offering/allocation service in the UK, where critical decision-making directly impacts patient outcomes.
  • You will support multi-disciplinary transplant teams across the UK by being a visible, credible expert and role model, providing clinical guidance and ensuring seamless collaboration in complex situations.
  • Be a key member of the team in the delivery of the strategy organ Donation and transplantation 2030: meeting the need, the organ utilisation group recommendations and in particular actions to support and maximise the potential for deceased donation.
  • You will lead the planning and coordination of change implementation across offering and allocation, working collaboratively with clinical, operational, and policy stakeholders.
  • Utilise your critical thinking and advanced clinical decision-making skills to work with the Head of Service Delivery (ODT Hub) and transplant community, influencing and negotiating to drive necessary change. This ensures robust systems and processes are in place, adhering to UK standards of practice for organ offering.
  • Play a pivotal role in key advisory group meetings, offering expert advice on critical aspects such as registration, allocation, offering pathways, and follow-up processes. Your input will shape policies.
