The Complementary Education Service Supports schools in ensuring statutory educational provision for pupils who cannot attend school in the usual way. This may be due to medical illness, pregnancy or emotional and psychological difficulties.

Teaching is provided within our teaching base in the centre of the borough (Formby) and through provision of home tuition and online learning packages.

We work in partnership with outside agencies including CAMHS, Health partners and Social Care. The Service supports schools in raising the levels of achievement, attendance and participation for vulnerable groups to enable them to engage in appropriate learning opportunities with a view to reintegrating with their mainstream or specialist settings.

Job Requirements:

We are looking to recruit two Learning Support and Pastoral Teaching Assistants to work Monday 8.30am to 4.30pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.30 to 4.00pm and Friday 8.30-3.30pm term time only at Pinefield Centre.

Due to the nature of the work the above post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and relevant care/safeguarding legislation and appointment will only be confirmed if a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure is obtained from the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Prohibition of Teachers List will also be checked. Please note that in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education requirements, online searches will be undertaken for all shortlisted candidates.

To work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, to support access to learning for a pupil with additional needs and provide general support to Pinefield Centre in the management of pupils and the classroom.

Job profile:

Support for pupils

Establish good working relationships with key stage 3 and 4 pupils, acting as a role model.

Be aware of and respond appropriately to individual pupil needs.

Work with our Sen Lead and class teacher to provide for the pupils needs as required.

Promote inclusion and acceptance of all

Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.

Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.

Ensure safeguarding procedure are followed.

Support pupils at break times and unstructured times and with movement around the building.

Support for the teacher

Provide minimal administration support (e.g. photocopying)

Establish good working relationships with staff and all pupils, acting as a role model.

Work with pupils with specific needs, following guidance and planning provided by the class teacher.

Report pupil achievements, progress and issues as appropriate in agreed format (Praise cards)

Support pupil behaviour in line with service policy and ensure reports are made in agreed service format.

Gather/report basic information from/to parents/carers as directed.

Support for the curriculum

Prepare and maintain equipment and resources as directed.

Support for the service

Be aware of and comply with all service policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection. Report all concerns to the appropriate person (as named in the policy concerned.)

Contribute to the service ethos, aims and development/improvement plan.

Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.

Attend relevant meetings as required.

Participate in training and other learning activities as required.

Assist with the supervision of pupils out of directed lesson time, including before and after lessons if appropriate and within working hours.

Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of service activities as required.

Act on advice where necessary.
