Job summary
Lockstown Practice will be looking to recruit a Receptionist for our friendly and busy GP practice. We have a practice list size of approximately 8000 patients and are committed to providing high quality and accessible patient centred care.
We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic individual, with previous experience working in a GP practice environment to join our team. A knowledge of the EMIS Web clinical system would also be beneficial. The successful candidate will be required to manage a variety of administrative tasks and should have experience dealing with the public.
The role will commence in October 2026 following the retirement of one of our valued members of staff.
Main duties of the job
You will be joining our Reception Team for a varied role which will include face to face/telephone interactions alongside administrative duties.
These duties will primarily involve dealing with patients queries, the booking of appointments, care navigation, processing prescription requests, managing emails, patient registrations and referrals
You will need to have an excellent telephone manner and a friendly personality is important for this role.
The post will be for approximately 30 hours per week and working hours will be agreed on appointment. Our practice is open from 7.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday and the postholder must be able to work between these times
Job description
- To greet patients on our reception desk and undertake reception duties in a prompt and courteous manner projecting a positive image of the practice whilst maintaining strict confidentiality
- Manage appointment requests from patients in person, by telephone or through our online triage system and arrange appointments with the relevant clinicians within the practice
- The ability to signpost patients to the appropriate local care pathways and services outside the practice
- The ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and considered manner
- An understanding of safeguarding issues for vulnerable patients groups including children, elderly, housebound and those with complex health needs
- The booking of outside interpreters to assist patients during appointments
- Taking requests for home visits in line with our practice policy
- Dealing with a variety of routine and complex enquiries from both patients and outside agencies
- Processing of repeat prescription requests
- Managing requests and informing patients of charges for private services. Accepting payments and issuing receipts
- Patient registrations which include temporary patients. Explain practice procedures and manage relevant documentation
- Assist patients to register for online services such as NHS APP and Patient Access
- To scan documents/hospital clinic letters into the patients computerised record
- Liaise with colleagues and report any issues to the Practice Manager or GP Partners as appropriate
- Undertake additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the management team to ensure the smooth running of the practice
- The ability to work additional hours or be flexible with your shift pattern where there is a requirement
About us
Our practice has 3 GP partners, 2 salaried GP's, 2 sessional GP's and up to 2 GP Registrars. In addition we have 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Nurse Associate, 1 General Practice Assistant, 1 Health Care Assistant and 6 Reception/Administrators
The management team consists of 1 Practice Manager, 1 Business Manager and 1 Assistant Manager
The practice also have a number of additional staff working within the practice which consist of Pharmacists/Pharmacy Technicians, Social Prescribers, a First Contact Physiotherapist and a Mental Health Practitioner
