Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and forward-thinking Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team. Beyond your clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to the leadership and development of the practice by working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, supporting service improvement, and fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and excellence. You will have opportunities to mentor and supervise colleagues, participate in quality improvement and clinical governance activities, and help develop the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

As a valued member of the clinical team, I deliver compassionate, high-quality, patient-centred care in line with the Primary Care Contract, NICE guidance, and professional standards. I assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with acute, urgent, long-term, and complex conditions, providing safe, evidence-based care and emergency treatment within my scope of practice.

I undertake comprehensive physical and psychological assessments, develop personalised care plans, and make appropriate referrals to specialist services. I prescribe safely in accordance with national and local guidelines, complete medication reviews, and maintain accurate, timely electronic patient records.

I promote health education, disease prevention, and self-management, empowering patients to achieve the best possible health outcomes. Working collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, and the wider multidisciplinary team, I contribute to coordinated, safe, and effective care.

I actively support clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, anticipatory care planning, QOF, and service development to enhance patient outcomes and practice performance. Committed to lifelong learning, I maintain compliance with safeguarding, appraisal, revalidation, mandatory training, and continuing professional development while promoting a culture of teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement across the practice and Primary Care Network.

Job description

Role PurposeAs a Salaried GP, you will provide high-quality, patient-centred primary care within a supportive multidisciplinary team. You will deliver safe, evidence-based clinical care while contributing to the ongoing development of the practice, supporting quality improvement, and promoting excellent patient outcomes.

Working collaboratively with GP partners, clinicians and the wider practice team, you will help deliver accessible, responsive and compassionate healthcare to our registered population, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, clinical governance and patient safety.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical CareYou will:

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based medical care to the registered patient population.
  • Assess, diagnose and manage acute, chronic and complex medical conditions using a holistic, patient-centred approach.
  • Develop and implement appropriate management plans, referring patients to secondary care, community services or other agencies when clinically indicated.
  • Prioritise and manage urgent, complex and emergency presentations, initiating appropriate treatment and emergency care where required.
  • Manage patients with long-term conditions in accordance with national guidance and local care pathways.
  • Promote health prevention, wellbeing and self-management, supporting patients to adopt healthier lifestyles and improve long-term health outcomes.
  • Prescribe safely, effectively and cost-efficiently in accordance with NICE guidance, local prescribing policies and best practice.
  • Undertake structured medication reviews and optimise prescribing to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes.
  • Contribute to anticipatory care planning and proactive management of patients with complex health needs.

Clinical AdministrationYou will:

  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and legally compliant clinical records.
  • Complete referrals, investigations, prescriptions, reports and other clinical correspondence promptly and accurately.
  • Process repeat prescriptions and other administrative requests in accordance with practice protocols.
  • Ensure all clinical documentation supports continuity, quality and patient safety.

Quality Improvement and Clinical GovernanceYou will:

  • Deliver care in accordance with national clinical guidance, local pathways and evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in clinical audit, Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) delivery and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to service redesign, innovation and the ongoing development of practice systems.
  • Support effective clinical governance, risk management and patient safety processes.
  • Comply with safeguarding legislation, information governance, infection prevention and all relevant professional standards.

Teamworking and LeadershipYou will:

  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, sharing workload fairly and supporting colleagues.
  • Develop positive working relationships with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals and administrative staff.
  • Participate actively in practice meetings, multidisciplinary team discussions and clinical education sessions.
  • Support the wider Primary Care Network (PCN) and work collaboratively with external healthcare providers to improve patient care.
  • Take delegated responsibility for specific clinical areas, including Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) workstreams or other agreed service developments.

Professional DevelopmentYou will:

  • Maintain professional registration and practise in accordance with General Medical Council (GMC) standards.
  • Participate fully in annual appraisal and five-yearly revalidation.
  • Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and demonstrate lifelong learning.
  • Contribute to education, mentoring and the professional development of colleagues where appropriate.
  • Promote a culture of learning, reflection and continuous improvement across the practice.
