Mental Health Legislation Officer (Part-Time)
15 Hours per Week | Monday & Friday, 9am-5pmLocation: St Nicholas Hospital, Gosforth, Newcastle Upon Tyne (Office Based).
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Mental Health Legislation Team. Working within a small specialist team, you will be responsible for administering the Mental Health Act 1983 and managing a caseload of approximately 60 patients.
Main duties of the job
Key duties include scrutinising and rectifying legal documentation, monitoring detention renewals and consent to treatment provisions, ensuring compliance with patients' rights under Section 132, and arranging Mental Health Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearings.
You will also provide advice and guidance on Mental Health Legislation to clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of Mental Health Legislation, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities while working independently and as part of a team.
They will have excellent knowledge and understanding of Microsoft applications.
Job description
The post holders will use their own initiative to manage and prioritise their workload on a daily basis. They will be expected to provide a proactive good quality clerical and administrative support within the team, be effective team player, possess excellent written and verbal communications skills including digital communication and confidently be able to relay information to clinical and non- clinical staff about the Mental Health Legislation, Code of Practices, Statutory instruments etc.
