Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist to join our Neurorehabilitation Psychology Service on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity leave cover from November 2026 to August 2027. Applications from newly qualified (or soon-to-qualify) Clinical Psychologists for appointment at Band 7 will also be considered.

This rewarding role offers the opportunity to work across inpatient and outpatient neurorehabilitation services supporting adults with a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke, traumatic and acquired brain injury, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, brain tumours, Functional Neurological Disorders and other complex neurological conditions.

Working across several multidisciplinary teams, you will provide specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment and intervention for people experiencing cognitive, emotional, behavioural and adjustment difficulties associated with neurological illness or injury. You will contribute to rehabilitation planning, goal setting and community reintegration while supporting psychologically informed care through stepped and matched care pathways.

Main duties of the job

As part of a well-established Neuropsychology Service within Neurorehabilitation, you will be required to deliver specialist clinical psychology and neuropsychology services to adults with a wide range of neurological conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will be required to provide neuropsychological assessment, formulation and intervention for people with stroke, traumatic and acquired brain injury, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, other progressive neurological conditions and complex neurorehabilitation needs. Interventions may include cognitive rehabilitation, psychological therapy, behavioural management, risk assessment, and support with adjustment.

Working across several multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute psychological expertise to rehabilitation planning and discharge planning. Through collaborative MDT working and stepped and matched care pathways, you will support psychologically informed rehabilitation and help patients access appropriate psychological support. The role includes consultation promoting understanding of the emotional, cognitive and behavioural consequences of neurological conditions and recognising when specialist psychological intervention is required.

You will receive regular supervision from a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist within a supportive psychology team. Experience of neuropsychological assessment is desirable.
