Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our hard working and dedicated Reception team within our Medical and Frailty Same Day Emergency Care Department at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. We have two part time vacancies available.
The successful candidates must be able to work our range of shifts covering Medical and Frailty SDEC as well as the Medical Day Case Unit 7 days a week including bank holidays.
Our current shifts are:Monday to Friday - 08:00 to 20:00 and 08:00 to 18:00
Saturday and Sunday - 08:00 to 16:00
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, compassionate, and caring candidates with a positive attitude and a passion for working with and helping people. You will be the first point of call for patients arriving on the department as well as telephone contact with GP's, outpatient clinics, patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidates will have a flexible approach to working, proven interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills and be able to provide an excellent patient experience. Previous experience working in a patient or customer facing role is essential.

Main duties of the job
- Book patients on to the system on arrival, using the electronic computer system.
- Transferring patients from and to other areas.
- Ensure that all relevant patient information is taken and recorded accurately.
- Maintain confidentiality, patient's privacy and dignity and act in a courteous manner at all times.
- Escalate any concerns over patients to the relevant clinical staff.
- Book, reschedule and cancel appointments.
- Book required transport for patients in Medical and Frailty SDEC as well as Medical Day Case Unit.
- Deal with telephone enquiries from GP's, patients, relatives, members of the public and other organisations/services.
- Deal with face to face enquiries from patients and clinical staff within the department
- To work with the multi-disciplinary team within the department and provide administrative support to people at all levels and contribute in a positive, proactive and professional manner.
