Job summary

To provide an effective and efficient outpatient appointment service. The post holder acts as the first point of contact for telephone communication for the Specialist Nurses, thereby supporting the delivery of quality care to patients within the BCLUHB. The post holder will administer clinics for the OPD and Minor Injuries Unit and carry out general clerical duties to facilitate the daily operation of the office.

Main duties of the job

The receptionist will work closely with the Specialist Nurses; the post holder is required to work accurately and independently, within guidelines after training in the patient focused booking of appointments. Use their own initiative and judgement, rather than supervised, deciding when necessary to consult their manager.

The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this role

Job description

To provide an efficient reception and administrative service to the MIU Department and Outpatients whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that an effective service is provided and patient satisfaction is maximised.

To promptly and efficiently exercise own judgement to resolve patient queries within own professional constraints.

By the nature of the duties, the post holder will be required to maintain strict confidentiality and will be expected to deal with staff, patients, carers and relatives with courtesy and discretion at all times.
