Main duties of the job

As an autonomous practitioner, you'll provide high-quality, patient-centred care to the practice population while upholding GMC standards and contractual requirements. You'll play a key role within the multidisciplinary team, helping to lead and develop the practice through collaboration, mentorship and clinical supervision. By leading by example, you'll support colleagues, promote a positive working environment, and contribute to the continued delivery of excellent general practice care.

Job description

Primary Key Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels

  • Deliver safe, effective and compassionate patient-centred care in accordance with GMC standards and current clinical guidance
  • Provide comprehensive clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients presenting with acute, chronic and complex conditions
  • Undertake appropriate clinical examinations, investigations, referrals and follow-up
  • Prescribe safely and effectively, taking account of current evidence, local formularies and antimicrobial stewardship
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
  • Provide appropriate management of long-term conditions and contribute to preventative healthcare and health promotion
  • Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and confidential clinical records
  • Work effectively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, healthcare assistants, social prescribers, mental health professionals and other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively with patients, relatives and colleagues, including in challenging or complex situations
  • Manage clinical risk appropriately, recognising and acting on safeguarding concerns and deteriorating patients
  • Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) of QOF
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, including participating in all aspects of QOF, QIF and all enhanced services

Other Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to clinical meetings, significant event reviews, audits, quality improvement initiatives and practice development
  • Participate in practice systems designed to promote patient safety, clinical governance and continuous improvement
  • Support the education, supervision and development of other healthcare professionals and trainees where appropriate
  • Contribute to the achievement of practice and wider NHS objectives, including quality and contractual requirements
  • Maintain full professional registration and professional development through appraisal, CPD and appropriate learning activities
  • Comply with practice policies, information governance, health and safety and infection prevention requirements
  • Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children

About us

We are a well-established semi-rural dispensing practice and have been serving the local community for over 25 years. We are a small, friendly and caring practice offering a full range of services to our practice list of just under 4,900 patients

Our clinical team consists of 2 GP Partners, Salaried GP, and practice nurses. They are supported by an experienced and dedicated team of managerial, administration, reception and dispensary staff. We are further supported by our PCN Staff which includes FCP, care co-ordinators, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, social prescribers, mental health practitioners and health and wellbeing coaches

We are a high achiever of QOF and QIF and offer a wide range of Enhanced Services. We use Total Triage for all GP appointment requests to support access and patient care

We are a GP Training and Teaching Practice working in collaboration with Keele Medical School and have Registrars and Medical Students on placement with us throughout the year
